Botox vs Fillers

Botox relaxes a muscle. Fillers add volume. Both can help, but they rarely fix the same problem.

Botox (botulinum toxin) and dermal fillers are the two most common cosmetic treatments done in an office. People often mix them up. Botox relaxes a muscle that's causing a wrinkle, for a few months. Fillers put back lost volume in hollows or along the shape of your face. Most fillers are hyaluronic acid gels.

Who picks which.

Botox®
  • Lines you only see when you move your face
  • Want a low-commitment first cosmetic step
Dermal fillers
  • Hollows or uneven areas you can see at rest
  • Lost volume from age, illness, or weight changes
Our verdict

Botox treats lines caused by movement. Fillers treat lost volume. Some people use both. Botox comes first to ease the muscle pull. Then fillers restore the structure underneath.

Prescription treatments need an online visit. A U.S.-licensed provider reviews it and decides if a treatment is medically right for you. Individual results vary.

Common questions.

Are these telehealth-prescribed?
No. A licensed injector gives both in a clinic. For in-person procedures, we refer you to partner clinics we've vetted.
Which is safer?
Both are generally considered safe when a trained, experienced injector does them. Both can still cause side effects. HA fillers can be reversed. Botox can't, but it wears off.
